1. Nature of Services
tax mate! provides administrative and processing assistance to individuals seeking to lodge income tax returns and/or claim superannuation refunds in Australia. Our services are strictly limited to:
- Collecting and organizing the information and documents you provide to us
- Entering your data into the relevant Australian Taxation Office (ATO) platforms, forms, or portals on your behalf and in accordance with your instructions
- Assisting with access to myGov, ATO online services, and superannuation fund portals
- Submitting applications or forms as directed by you
- Providing general, publicly available information about the Australian tax and superannuation system
tax mate! does not provide tax advice, financial advice, legal advice, or any form of professional opinion regarding your individual tax affairs. Nothing in our communications, website, marketing materials, or services should be construed as such.
2. Non-Registration Disclosure
tax mate! and its personnel are not registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) as tax agents, BAS agents, or tax (financial) advisers under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (Cth). We do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).
We do not act as your tax agent or representative before the ATO in any professional advisory capacity. Our role is strictly limited to administrative assistance and data processing based on the information and instructions you provide.
3. Client Responsibility
By using our services, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You are solely and ultimately responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and truthfulness of all information provided to us and included in any tax return, amendment, or superannuation claim lodged on your behalf
- You are responsible for reviewing all documents, forms, and returns before they are lodged or submitted, and your approval constitutes your authorization for lodgment
- Any tax return lodged through our service is deemed to be your own self-prepared return, and you bear full legal responsibility for its content
- You are responsible for retaining records and substantiation for all claims and deductions for the period required by Australian law (generally five years)
- You understand that it is an offence under Australian law to make a false or misleading statement in a tax return, and that penalties may apply
4. Authorization & Consent
By using our services, you:
- Authorize tax mate! to access your myGov account, ATO online services, and/or superannuation fund accounts solely for the purposes described in Section 1
- Confirm that all information, figures, and documents you have provided are accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge
- Authorize the lodgment of your tax return and/or superannuation refund application based on the information you have provided and approved
- Consent to tax mate! collecting, using, and storing your personal information (including your Tax File Number, date of birth, passport details, and financial records) strictly for the purpose of providing the agreed services
5. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- tax mate! accepts no responsibility or liability for any errors, omissions, penalties, interest charges, shortfall amounts, or adverse outcomes arising from the information you have provided or the content of any return lodged on your behalf
- tax mate! is not liable for any decisions, assessments, audits, reviews, or actions taken by the ATO, any superannuation fund, or any other government body in relation to your tax affairs
- tax mate! is not liable for any delays caused by the ATO, superannuation funds, myGov system outages, or any third-party platform or institution
- tax mate!'s total aggregate liability to you, for any cause whatsoever, shall not exceed the total fees you have paid to tax mate! for the specific service giving rise to the claim
6. No Guarantee of Results
tax mate! does not guarantee any specific refund amount, processing time, or outcome. Any estimates, projections, or indicative figures provided — whether on our website, in marketing materials, or in direct communications — are for informational purposes only and are based on the information available at the time. Actual results are determined solely by the ATO or the relevant superannuation fund and may differ from any estimate provided.
7. Fees & Payment
Our fee structure will be communicated to you prior to the commencement of services. By proceeding with our services, you agree to the applicable fees as presented. No refund of service fees will be issued once the return or claim has been lodged, regardless of the outcome.
8. Privacy & Data Protection
tax mate! is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth):
- Your personal information will only be used for the purpose of providing the agreed services
- We will not disclose your personal information to third parties unless required by law, authorized by you, or necessary to complete the services
- We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us
9. Electronic Communications
You acknowledge that electronic communication (including email, messaging applications, and online portals) carries inherent risks. tax mate! will use reasonable efforts to communicate securely but accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from electronic communications. You consent to receiving all notices and communications electronically.
10. Dispute Resolution
In the event of any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms or the services provided, both parties agree to attempt to resolve the matter through good faith negotiation before pursuing any other remedy.
11. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia. Both parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.
12. Changes to These Terms
tax mate! reserves the right to update or amend these Terms at any time. Any material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of our services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
